Unfortunately, our Sonoran
Desert wildflowers will likely be disappointing
this year in view of the record setting
severe dryness.
Finally, in March of 2006 the record breaking drought ended with the first measurable rain recorded in Phoenix Arizona in an amazing 144 straight days!
Deer Vally Az, which is located about 35-miles north of both Sky Harbor International Airport and downtown Phoenix is believed to have gone even longer according to our knowledge, as we believe there was not a drop of rain in Deer Vally for an estimated 192-days. Isn't that incredible, even for the desert!
It was quite beautiful in 2005 when Deer Valley had such a fabulous and wonderful wild flower display5 due to all the rain during the late winter time period which is just before the time wildflowers start blooming in the Great Sonoran Desert.
Even though our Arizona desert environment results for unreliable wildflowers, still the expectation of the next desert wild flower season is something to look forward to every year.
Deer Vally enjoys a mild and very sunny winter climate
and gets long hot summers. All outdoor
activities last thru out the year and
winter. Residents and tourists can wear
shorts on our nice warm winter days,
and go golfing at the areas 200 plus
golf courses and resorts!
The areas many consecutive 100 degree plus summer days are not as uncomfortable as you would expect what with our low desert relative humidity, which many tourists and visitors say tends to make a 110 degree summer day feel more like a 90 degree day in humid areas! And of course with the many area swimming pools it is real easy to cool-off.
Deer Valley (also spelled Deer Vally) is located in the "valley of the sun" where the sun shines strongly with bright blue skies more than 335 days a year! Stars shine brightly at night and The Milky Way Galaxy is visible with the naked eye, Our dark sky night lighting combined with dry desert condition low humidity results in a dark black night sky, great for star-gazing.
Even though it never snows in the Deer Valley (Deer Vally) Arizona Sonoran Desert, nevertheless in some years there is often good snow and ski conditions at nearby Snow Bowl Ski Resort in Flagstaff, Arizona. It's only a 2-hr drive north of Deer Valley on Arizona Interstate-17.
More reliable ski conditions (thanks to man-made snow if snowfall is light or the weather too warm) may be found at Arizona Sunrise Ski Resort (located east of Deer Valley & Phoenix/Scottsdale, in the White Mountains).
Skiing, snow-boarding and cross country ski snow conditions will vary widely from year-to-year based on how dry or wet the winter season is in Northern Arizona. What with Deer Valley's great geographical location in Central Arizona it's possible to be skiing in the Mogollon Rim snow country skiing resorts, and also go swimming in a Deer Valley pool on the same day!
